Animal Releases

Willowbrook Wildlife Center has many success stories and listed below are a few. Click on them for more photos or a video. When an animal is released, the event usually takes place in a quite secluded area of one of the many Dupage County forest preserves. This allows the animal to find a den, construct a nest, or establish a territory without worrying about hiding from a lot of people. Usually the location selected is appropriate to the particular animal's needs… trees, fields, rivers or lakes. On occasion the public is invited to these events, usually one or two per summer. Check the home page or the news and events pages to see if any public releases are occurring soon.

Turkey Vulture. This Turkey Vulture arrived in the fall but was unable to be rehabilitated in time for a release before winter so it was cared for until spring when it was released. Watch the short movie of it's first real flight in months as it was given its freedom. See the video in WMV (Windows) or MOV (Quicktime) format.
