Events at Willowbrook Wildlife Center

When you visit our center you'll have a variety of options. In our visitor center are indoor exhibits with song birds, amphibians, reptiles and a few behind the scenes windows. You'll also find our resident bunnies and rats that you can interact with. Educational exhibits will teach you about animals, nature and conservation. For those interested in a short walk you'll want to see our outdoor trail with various raptors (eagles and hawks) and other native birds and mammals of DuPage county. Our new butterfly garden will overwhelm your sense of sight and smell with a variety of flowers planted specifically to help attract butterflies and hummingbirds. For a more "natural" experience you can proceed to our nature trail that winds through a savannah, prairie and pond in our "back 40".

Through out the year our Naturalists offer programs at Willowbrook Wildlife Center. To attend one of our events check our Upcoming Events page for dates, times and more information. Listed below is a sampling of our events.

A few times each month we offer the opportunity to walk with a Naturalist. One of our resident naturalists leads participants around the nature trail demonstrating how we observe and record that native residents and migrants. You'll discover out how to recognize various native (and invasive) plants and which ones provide food and shelter for animals. Every walk is different. In winter, animal tracks are frequently seen, while in summer, a variety of different dragonflies will be found by the pond.

For the younger children we have animal puppet parades, firefly stories and make your own ornament activities. Near Christmas time our Ornament program allows you and your child to make an edible (for animals) ornament that can be hung outdoors to attract birds and squirrels.

Our onsite programs cover a wide variety of ages and activities and further information can be found on our Events and Programs page, or for a short list of upcoming events, see the home page.
