Rehabilitation Stories

Peregrine Falcon

This peregrine falcon is a youngster from this year. It was found on July 7th in Elmhurst, unable to fly. Willowbrook’s veterinarian examined the bird and believes that the bird is suffering from head trauma and possibly vision problems.

Peregrine falcons are currently an endangered species in Illinois, but are in the process of being downlisted to “Threatened” due to their increasing numbers in the state.

If this bird is releasable, it will be banded by members of the Peregrine Release Program in Chicago so that it’s movements can be monitored.

It’s been determined -- the peregrine falcon is non-releasable because of vision problems. He has been trained for Willowbrook’s educational raptor program and will travel to local schools as part of educational programs.

Look for him soon outside in our exhibit Trail!
