Possum
This female opossum arrived at Willowbrook on April 29th from Bolingbrook after being attacked by a resident’s dog. Upon examination, the veterinarian discovered that she had 10 babies in her pouch! Opossums are North America’s only marsupial. Young opossums are born at 0.13 grams and crawl up into Mom’s pouch shortly after birth. They remain here, nursing on Mom’s rich milk, for several weeks until they are large enough to climb onto her back.
This opossum’s wounds are healing very well and she will be released with her babies at the end of May!
